The initial training programme takes your learning one step further, incorporating practical applications through a variety of case studies, workshops and presentations. Career progression opportunities and training are offered in various fields like Sales, Trading, Investment Banking and Debt Capital Markets, Risk Management or Strategy and Planning groups.
Initial classes will include comprehensive product training, accounting, and Excel. You may also cover soft skills, such as pitchbook writing, selling and negotiating, and research report writing. Our programmes start with an intensive introduction to the firm, our products, instruments and services, and the wider financial markets. You’ll gain more than a theoretical understanding, however, with a variety of case studies, workshops and presentations giving you invaluable practical knowledge and skills. You can also expect comprehensive role-specific training, plus soft skills development.
Entry level: Depending on your area of interest, level and stage of study, you can apply for an internship or full time position at one of the following levels.
Analysts fulfil a multitude of roles across the business. To become an Analyst at Barclays Capital you need at least an outstanding undergraduate degree, possibly a masters. For our full time roles, work experience gained through internships can also be an advantage. Applicants need to be highly intelligent and numerate, with strong communication skills. Fluency in more than one language is an asset for some roles, and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.
Associates work across the business and provide a combination of academic and professional expertise. As a result, in order to join Barclays Capital as an Associate, we expect you to have or be studying towards a Masters in Finance or MBA at a business school, along with a period of professional work experience in which you can demonstrate evidence of progression, responsibility in terms of project work, teamwork and leadership, international awareness / exposure, etc. As one of our Associates we will give you.
Our quantitative associates perform highly technical roles, working with and developing the mathematical models used in our daily trading and risk management activities. Working closely with traders and other experts they develop the programmes and models that we need to stay at the cutting edge of our business. Candidates for quantitative associate positions should be studying for or have completed a PhD or equivalent in a highly technical discipline such as Maths, Physics or Engineering.
Internships: An internship is an excellent way for you to gain an understanding of Barclays Capital, and possibly secure a full time position on successful completion of your degree. Available at both Analyst and Associate level, internships last around ten weeks and most commonly take place over the summer.

You will develop a more in -depth, specialized expertise of the financial services industry and learn how Barclays Capital’s unique business model relates to the markets.
