Careers in Creative Arts and Design

Starving artist? Hardly. Although there's a common misconception that artists are (ahem) underemployed, the creative industry employs 678,480 people (Creative and Cultural Skills, Impact and Footprint, 2008/9) in the UK.

Most of them underpaid (true) but you're not an "in-it-for-the-money" sell-out, are you?

Jokes aside, the creative industry can provide you with immense job satisfaction, and let's face it, the creative license to be a little odd.

Obviously, creative companies don't cater exclusively for designers and writers.

Fashion, design, animation and fine arts, all industries that have that trendy edge, but also rely very much on analytical, financial, and people skills to turn great ideas into businesses.

Globalisation brings with it new "markets" for artists and designers, leads to increased demand. This makes for an exciting time within the creative arts world as new projects are commissioned in a very rapid rate.

And to top it all off, you get to say "I'm working in arts". Take that to your high school reunion.
