1957 Frank Stronach opens a one-man tool and die shop called Multimatic.1973 The Company name is changed to Magna International Inc.1985 Metal stamping and assembly expertise expands to include complete Class A exterior sheet metal and closure capability.1986 First complete vehicle engineering program for General Motors.1987 Cosma International is formally consolidated into the metalforming group of Magna.1989 Cosma begins its European expansion, opening facilities in Germany and Austria.1995 Cosma opens it's first of four facilities in Mexico to service its global customers.1997 First hydroforming program for Cosma, a high volume passenger car engine cradle.1998 The largest supplier contract to ever be awarded at the time, the complete frame assembly for the General Motors full size pickup and SUV program launches in two new facilities in Ontario and Mexico (1999). Production of Cosma's first complete body in white for the Mercedes SMART program begins in Europe.2000 Awarded complete vehicle engineering program for Nissan trucks.2001 Cosma opens sales and engineering office in Japan.2002 First complete suspension module contract launches.2003 The complete frame assembly for the new Dodge Durango is launched by Cosma. Cosma opens engineering center in Bangalore, India. DaimlerChrysler awards Cosma a major contract to produce Class A exterior sheetmetal and closure assemblies for future Mercedes SUVs to be built in Alabama.2004 Cosma opens first office in China. Awarded two major frame programs with Ford Motor Company, further strengthening Cosma's leadership as a frame supplier. Class A exterior sheetmetal capability is added to Cosma's Mexican operations.2006 Cosma adds new manufacturing site in France, Poland, and the US to support its global customers. Cosma forms a joint venture with Korean supplier Shin Young Metal, a global stamping and assembly supplier.2008 Cosma and JV partner Shin Young Metal announce a future greenfield facility to built in St. Petersburg, Russia. Cosma announces new manufacturing facility to be built in Pune, India. The Pune facility will supply global customers and programs with stamped and welded assemblies.2009 Cosma is awarded the production contract for the next-generation frame assembly for General Motors’ full-size light-duty pickup trucks and SUVs. This is the third generation of frames Cosma has been awarded on this platform by GM. Cosma enters the renewable energy market with engineering services and production awards. Cosma adds new manufacturing facility in San Luis de Potosi, Mexico, supporting the commercial vehicle sector with welded assemblies.2010 Cosma opens sales & engineering office in Brazil. Cosma and JV Partner Shin Young Metal open stamping & assembly facility in St. Petersburg, Russia.
