Training & Support
We treat continuous training and development as a priority for those undertaking the LPC, trainees and qualified lawyers. As one of our trainee solicitors, you will receive approximately 120 hours of formal training over the two-year training contract. This will include the professional skills introductions to the specialist groups at Hogan Lovells. You will also benefit from the ongoing support of your team members — fellow trainees, lawyers and partners alike.
Our clients expect informed, effective legal and business advice from all our lawyers. As a trainee solicitor at Hogan Lovells you will participate in an extensive training programme which covers legal, business and technology skills. We are committed to providing you with the highest possible standard of training throughout your training contract and beyond, so you will develop into an accomplished legal and business adviser.
A formal mentoring system exists at Hogan Lovells. As a trainee solicitor you will be allocated a partner with whom you can discuss your career progress and any concerns or issues you have. We try to ensure, for the sake of independence, that you won't be working directly with your mentor partner. The mentor partners offer valuable insights and perspective as you meet new and often difficult challenges.
Each intake of trainees elects two of its members to the Trainee Solicitor Liaison Committee. They meet quarterly with the Trainee Development team to table ideas, offer feedback and voice any concerns about aspects of the training contract. They are also responsible for planning and promoting social events for trainees.
The working environment
Our working environment is defined by two elements: the ambience of the building and the personalities within it. Atlantic House was designed specifically for us, and as the guided tour will demonstrate, caters for the needs of all of our people.
Social
A degree of balance is important in the workplace. Hogan Lovells, like any major law firm, is an exacting and challenging place to work. There is, however, time to enjoy the company of your colleagues. Our staff restaurant and coffee shop provide opportunities for catching up with friends during the working day; the in-house gym is there for you to unwind.
Working internationally
All second year trainees have the opportunity to apply to spend six months abroad. This is not compulsory and if you want to remain in London you can do so. We currently send trainees to Brussels, Dubai, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Paris and Singapore. Currently about 32 trainees will go on either an international or client secondment at each seat change, so depending on the size of your intake, you have a good chance of a secondment or international placement.
