Can someone help me to understand what Brave New Talent is about. What's the mission, what's the organising principle? Why am I being asked to come to this community, what's wrong with using existing fora like Facebook or Twitter of the LinkedIn group? Thanks.

      Hello again Chris

There's nothing wrong with using those but the aim of BraveNewTalent is to help everyone learn from each other and become more effective, efficient professionals. We organise our content around interests - rather than relying on a pre-formed network outside we are building communities where people can make new connections. Although this could in theory be achieved on LinkedIn or Facebook the reality is that they are not designed for it. Also employers on BraveNewTalent can make connections with potential future talent by meeting them directly online in a professional environment. Individuals can identify organisations they may like to work for and learn about the company before entering into job interviews.

Our mission is 'Connecting Education, Employability and Employment'. The vision and mission is worldwide and huge - to make education accessible to all and open opportunities with great employers to all those who merit it, not just those who happen to know someone.

In the future, Employers will be able to distribute training and development content to their community to form a virtual school in the cloud. The model of opening up learning and development content to the community is a very powerful way for BraveNewTalent users to access world-class knowledge. In turn, the employers benefit by building their employment brand and access to Talent as well as the ability to use the response to the training content as a way to make better informed hiring decisions.

The pace of adoption of employer driven, employee delivered virtual schools is expected to be extremely fast to achieve critical mass as they impact so many aspects of the business positively by creating value – the areas include recruitment, Talent Management, internal learning and development, employer brand, CSR/Social responsibility, innovation, etc. BraveNewTalent hereby facilitates the creation of employer driven virtual schools that unlock internal knowledge and skills to a global audience.

Hope that helps to answer your questions.

      Best
      Charlie

Thanks for taking the time to write all that. There's a lot to unpack here. So I am just going to say how you come across as a brand from the outside, just from my perspective and in my opinion.
It sounds very confused and like you're unsure of what you are, of what you're trying to deliver. The message you just gave me sounds very different to the one I remember last year. I don't remember education being involved at all, I recall it being all about recruitment. When did that change? What happened to the old site and the dashboard? Was that a prototype? Did you announce the change formally, did you explain any reasons for the pivot? It's no wonder I didn't know you were in beta the word is so small on the new logo.

To make no mention of the ethical concerns one might raise about your product design. Apart from looking very similar to Talentwire and Pinterest there is also the issue of whether it is right to have jobseekers entering a space or 'talent community' where they can be poached as it were by employers and recruiters. The mere knowledge that they might be being watched by their next potential boss will cause self censorship and create a tense environment assuming they sign up at all. It will lead to what's called first mover effects. See Bentham's Panopticon.

      Other things of note,

I haven't seen any content specific privacy options, only 3 general ones in settings
The architecture is confusing I am not sure where I'm supposed to 'hang out'
There's no breakout or backchannel facility
The whole thing looks over designed with too many features without having tested the market first
I keep having to sign in as my cookies expire very quickly

Let me know if you want anymore feedback. Like I said to Lucian it's important for this country that you guys do well and I wish you all the best with your new direction.

      C
