There are many different community programs which are built for entirely different purposes. You have many different kinds of users.

      "Go, o’ mystical community manager, and build us a thriving community!” That I found very funny!

      I think there is a lot of 'old school' tech which works quite well, like forums and link sharing platforms which are suitable. I also think it's hard to move a community. I've been in communities which have moved a lot and it is difficult to not lose people - and sometimes the whole community - without a lot of work on the part of the organisers.
