IB Risk:

IB Risk provides an opportunity to adopt an holistic approach to risk by allowing graduates to appreciate our culture, and understand that risk management touches everything that we do within the Investment Bank.

Proven academic credentials are a given but due to the variety of roles in IB Risk, a more traditional arts, languages or science-based discipline could be as relevant as a financial, economic or legal degree. Many of the competencies required for a role in IB Risk are common across all the IB Risk areas, however you may have certain skills that mean you're better suited to a specific group. At the interview stage, we will discuss with you which area we feel your skills and experiences are more suited to. In the meantime, here are the requirements and competencies we're look for.

As business is primarily conducted in English, verbal and written fluency in English is essential. However, as we are a global business and operate extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, fluency in other languages is extremely beneficial

You'll be required to work both as part of a team and individually, without undue supervision, to anticipate what is required. You'll need to be proactive rather than reactive. With many conflicting calls on your time you'll need to manage your own work effectively and efficiently, and constantly communicate your progress.

Strong communication skills

When you work with so many people from different parts of the bank, effective communication is essential. The analytical work you carry out will be the backbone for important risk decisions, so key information and concerns need to be presented in a clear and concise manner, whether delivered in written or oral form. You will also need to be able to collect information from the business, help coordinate the deal process and be ready to find yourself answering to a senior credit executive, trading desk head or CFO of a company.

Flexibility

Flexibility is crucial as, although you might specialise in a particular industry, geography, or product, you could find yourself working unexpectedly on a completely new project as the business demands.

Ability to cope with change in the dynamic market environment

Financial markets are volatile, unpredictable and exciting. You'll need to be able to analyse risk holistically and objectively, whether times are good or bad. Clients, deals and markets will vary widely, so you'll have to be prepared to deal with a wide and ever expanding range of products and structures.
