For the first time, more people will live in cities than in the countryside, natural resources are becoming scarcer, people are demanding a constant flow of information, living longer and travelling more. Because of this Siemens is concentrating on three key areas, Industry, Energy & Healthcare. Siemens is one of the world’s largest engineering companies.
The group operates in a variety of sectors including power, transportation, information and communications, automation and control, metallurgical services, building and medical technologies. In the UK, Siemens has had a presence since 1843. Their founder, William Siemens, was one of the leading industrialists of the Victorian age, turning his concepts and inventions into practical solutions – many of which were world firsts.Today, the group design and manufacture products and systems ranging from traffic lights, gas turbines and turbine spares to the superconducting magnets used in medical scanners and the drives that are behind many of the UK’s manufacturing plants.
Graduate opportunities at Siemens are as extensive as the organization itself, stretching across engineering, IT and business-related areas.
The graduate programme is a three-stage process:
1) Local Development Plan: Your manager will work with you to create a personal development plan that details what you need to be able to do in your role & how you will achieve it. You will both regularly review your progress to ensure that you are getting the support you need.
2) Professional Development Plan: As well developing in your current role you’ll also be looking into the longer term. In many cases this will include working towards chartered status with bodies such as IMechE, IET, CIMA or CIPD.
3) Graduate Development Programme: You'll also participate in the two-year GDP which focuses on the generic skills that all graduates require. This will comprise of nine modules covering personal and business skills such as communication, team working, financial & commercial awareness. It is also an excellent opportunity to build your network with fellow graduates from around the business.
