Viral marketing
Viral Marketing is a recently emerged and innovative approach to marketing using the highly forceful mode of social media and mobile platforms to promote brands or to increase product sales.
The term ‘viral’ comes from its self-replicating nature that is akin to the spread of viruses or computer viruses. The effectiveness of viral marketing depends on the pass-on rate. Despite its recent prominence and popularity, Viral marketing campaigns have been circulating for over a decade. The intrigue is to create content that people cannot resist engaging with and sharing. Viral marketing may have started through refer-a-friend emails, chain mails, or text messages or images but more than a decade later, it has evolved into video clips, interactive flash games, e-books, advergames and re-branded software.
