Recruitment
The process of attracting, screening and selecting an individual/ individuals for employment. Recruiters are also involved in improving company policies, conducting job assessments, attending jobs fairs and seminars, networking with employers and business owners, and assisting HR teams. It is a dynamic and fast-paced industry, which employs more than 100,000 people and this important sector has an annual turnover of around £25 billion (REC, 2011). The agency-based recruitment industry generally falls into four major categories: Traditional or employment agencies Recruitment websites and job search engines Niche agencies (i.e. agencies that seek staff with a very narrow speciality) Headhunters (i.e. those using social media to find candidates- social recruiting) Some organisations use in-house recruitment and employer branding strategy instead of agencies, which focuses less on assimilating talent and more on filling a single in-house vacancy. Most of the large corporations tend to undertake their own in-house recruitment. They create special departments or assign people who are responsible for the candidate selection and the process; e.g. human resource department (HR) or front-line managers, recruitment personnel who handle targeted functions and populations.
