The company was founded in 1976 as Sonangol U.E.E. Later, it changed its name to Sonangol E.P. in 1999. The company is based in Luanda, Angola with offices in Brazzaville, Congo; Hong Kong, China; Houston, Texas; London, England; and Singapore, Singapore.
