During my time there I learnt about how the firm operates as a business through talks about the firm's IT systems including the new intranet they were introducing, as well as the way in which the firm markets itself to potential clients. I also worked in a number of the departments for a few days: Corporate and Commercial; Civil Dispute; Property; and Employment. I undertook several tasks including drafting letters to other solicitors, research, drafting a defence and other documents, filling in SDLT returns, proof-reading contracts for sale, as well as reading up on the files for current matters to see how the solicitors organised them, and how the cases developed.
