I am a PhD student, geek, dog owner and lapsed Scotsman, although not necessarily in that order. I enjoy finding simple solutions to complex problems.   I spend my free time either entertaining my two dogs or trying to get/keep fit. I go running with Rossendale Harriers and completed my first marathon this year. I'm also one of those people who reads technical books for fun. I'm trying to make my way through Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming at the moment. I appreciate good design, heavy rock music and my favourite colour is yellow.

My PhD study has given me a solid grounding in software development, and I would like to push this further. I'm looking to hit the ground running in a professional team where I can learn from experts in the field and contribute to purposeful products. Longer term, I wouldn't rule out a managerial role, but only once I feel I've amassed sufficient technical knowledge and experience.
