Teach First recruits high-calibre graduates from all disciplines to train and qualify as teachers. Before being assigned to a school, they will attend six weeks of intensive education training. At the end of year one, they will achieve Qualified Teacher Status – a qualification that means they can return to the teaching profession at any point in the future.

Alongside paid teaching, they also participate in the Leadership Development programme – designed and delivered in collaboration with our business supporters and Imperial College Business School. Joining Teach First means spending two years teaching in a challenging East Midlands, London, North West, West Midlands or Yorkshire school, preparing and delivering real lessons to real pupils – it is no soft option. But few other career choices offer the same degree of responsibility so early, or the chance to make such an important difference.

Teach First is supported by Accenture, Capital One, Clifford Chance, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, The Goldman Sachs Foundation, HSBC, McKinsey & Company, Microsoft, Shell and UBS among many others.

Be different, make a difference

Teach First is a ground-breaking leadership development programme for high-calibre graduates. It combines leadership and business skills training – including coaching and internship opportunities – with paid teaching in a challenging East Midlands, London, North West, West Midlands or Yorkshire secondary school.

The aim is to transform exceptional graduates into inspiring teachers and ultimately becoming inspiring leaders.

Teach First allows you to gain early responsibility, a professional qualification and leave your options open while making a difference. A cut above the rest

After Teach First, ambassadors can either stay on in teaching, or move on into other sectors, using what they have learnt to become influential leaders and entrepreneurs within their chosen career path.

Two years to make an impact

Teach First recruits outstanding graduates to enter a demanding two-year programme in which they will train, qualify and work as teachers in some of East Midlands, London, North West, West Midlands or Yorkshire’s most challenging schools – those which most need an injection of bright, enthusiastic, highly motivated talent.

With their exceptional qualifications, superb communication skills and professional drive, Teach First participants bring a new dimension to classrooms where students are confronted by a wide range of personal and social issues. They become inspirational role models and agents of change themselves, making a real and lasting difference to the lives of the students they teach.

During the first year on the programme participants are trained to become outstanding teachers and gain Qualified Teacher Status. To help them succeed, Teach First provides an extensive support network of individual tutors, in-school mentors, and an intensive six-week Summer Institute programme starting with continued subject training programmes.

Learning to Lead - developing knowledge, skills and experiences for emerging leaders.

Drawing on the expertise and resources of its many supporters, along with Imperial College Business School and the Institute of Education, the programme combines skills training, internship and networking opportunities with coaching by experienced practitioners from all sectors.
