We’re one of the world’s greatest businesses, with amazing brands, dynamic people and a sustainable vision. If you are ambitious, keen to learn, and want to lead… you’ve come to the right place.
Future Leaders Programme
The Unilever Future Leaders Programme (UFLP) is about learning business fast. It’s about growing iconic multi-million pound, market-leading brands from day one. It’s tapping into continuous business mentoring, excellent training, and hands-on responsibility. It’s learning like you’ve never learned before.
It’s challenging, make no mistake. But we’re looking to make managers of you in two years. You will drive your career and some of the world’s most-loved brands into the future.
Come and work for 12 weeks during the summer months on a genuine business project alongside Unilever managers, with whom you will set goals and measure your performance against Unilever competencies.
You’ll learn loads, be well paid, and students who successfully complete our summer placement will have the opportunity to proceed directly to the 'Selection Day' stage for our Future Leaders Programme.
You also have the option to come and work with us for 12 months, starting in the summer, where you will learn on a real job with real responsibilities, working alongside Unilever managers with whom you will set goals and measure your performance against Unilever competencies. It’s a great way to get a flavour of our business.
If you pass the placement you’ll be offered a place directly onto our Future Leaders Programme for when you complete your degree, without needing to apply.
It’s a two-way thing. We have a positive impact on you, you have a positive impact on us; and together we work on household names that have a genuine impact on people’s lives. Here are five great reasons to work for Unilever:
- Amazing brands and global business
Our brands help make life taste better, smell better, feel better in over 180 countries: in fact 150 million times a day someone chooses a Unilever product. Their sheer breadth means massive career opportunities.
- Ambitious – for our business and the planet
Our mission is to double the size of our business, while halving our environmental impact, which is detailed in our Sustainable Living Plan.
- Dynamic people, varied work
We attract people with different views, abilities, experiences and backgrounds, and it’s this variety working together that makes Unilever one of the most successful consumer goods companies in the world, as well as such a stimulating place to work.
- Strong rewards
A highly competitive starting salary, pay review every six months for the first two years, an annual bonus based on performance, and a long list of other benefits, including share plans in the long term.
- Learn business fast...
And progress. At Unilever you learn business fast. You’ll be supported through business mentoring and excellent professional, personal and leadership training, whilst being given responsibility from day one and a fast-track to senior management for high achievers.
What we are looking for
Throughout our recruitment process we assess candidates against our leadership competencies (called Standards of Leadership), so it's worth familiarising yourself with these and considering how you measure up against each one. Our recruitment process is rigorous, so if you don't fulfil these criteria, it's best to realise this before investing the time in applying. Think about the examples that you have and how they can fit into the different competencies below.
Competencies - Standards of Leadership
You have a positive attitude about the company's future and a passion for growth and winning. You take the lead and seek fresh opportunities; insist on innovation and never settle for 'good enough'.
Consumer and Customer Focus
You have a passion to improve the lives of our consumers and customers and bring their voice into everything we do and the decisions we make. You are externally focused and go the extra mile in order to exceed consumer and customer expectations.
Bias for Action
You bring a sense of urgency to getting things done and making tough decisions, avoiding over-debating or over-analysing issues. You're results-focused, and drive for simplification by keeping the end goal in sight at all times.
Accountability and Responsibility
You make commitments and hold yourself accountable for delivery. You take pride in delivering work to the highest standards and acknowledges when things are not up to scratch. You let people know clearly, at the beginning what is expected in terms of performance and hold them accountable for delivery.
Building Talent and Teams
You inspire through action and lead by example. You challenge people to do their best work and spend time coaching individuals and teams to ensure that they realise their full potential. You constantly challenge yourself to grow and improve.
In addition to these we look for well-rounded individuals that have passion for business, the desired business area, and the consumer goods industry. We expect our prospective employees to know who we are and the brands that make up Unilever.
